City Swimming Club’s Aquasprints Team will compete in the Finals of the 2012 Aquasprints Championships on Friday 1st June at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex. The Aquasprints League sees young swimmers, from 8 to 12 years old, race against other top Clubs from across Northern Ireland, in all strokes with relay races in both the freestyle and medley events.
A series of fine performances throughout the season gave Lisburn’s 48-strong team, convincing wins over Larne, Banbridge, Templemore and Bangor before meeting Ards Swimming Club at the end of April.
This was expected to be one of the toughest Meets of the season for the City’s junior swimmers but the local team rose to the occasion magnificently. With every single swimmer racing out of their skins they impressed and entertained with their skills and nail biting finishes. This was evident from the Lisburn cheers, claps and applause from the packed out gallery at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex.
From the very beginning it was clear that all the swimmers were up and ready for the challenge. As a team gala, the importance of second and third place finishes was crucial, showing the importance of everyone’s performance to the team. The City’s swimmers were fabulous, showing determination and competition well beyond their tender years and were richly rewarded with a 200 points each draw with Ards.
Lisburn will now compete once again against Ards and Bangor in the Finals for the title of 2012 Aquasprints Champions.
Lisburn go into the Final unbeaten throughout the season, its best performance in several years and the local swimmers should be hugely encouraged by their performances which have just got better and better as the Competition has progressed. With three Clubs competing for the title of Aqua sprints Champion there is all to swim for on the 1st June.
A big well done to all the swimmers, coaches and parent officials for making this a great season for the Lisburn Aquasprints Team. We look forward to seeing your continued huge support for the swimmers at the Final.
