Our own home pool played host to the first regional qualifying meet of the season. Over 400 swimmers took part representing almost 30 clubs from around Ulster. Teams came from as far away as City of Derry, Letterkenny and Ballyshannon, for the competition that took place over the weekend of the 19th-20th October.
Lisburn City Swimming Club was well represented with 45 swimmers taking part. They were supported over the weekend by coaches, Martin, Stan, Dave and Blair. Overall the swimmers performed very well especially for so early in the season. We had 4 swimmers take part in their very first qualifying meet and all did their coaches and themselves proud, rising to the challenge of this level of competition and taking on events that they have never done before.
The results from the weekend show just how well the club performed;
272 individual swim
215 Personnel best or new times recorded
215 swims, resulted in swimmers being placed in the top 8
110 medals where won including,
5-Club Records Broken
These are easily some of the best results from an October qualifying meet in recent times. It is testament to the swimmers, coaches and parent’s dedication and commitment to the culture we are creating at Lisburn City Swimming Club. Swimmers are buying in and fully committing to the programme and this is driving their achievements forward. A great set of results and increasingly more and more skillful racing, but as always plenty to continue to work on to drive the progression forward.
This success doesn’t happen on its own and takes time, a lot of time, to develop. Everyone plays a part and everyone has to buy in to it for it to succeed.
Massive thank you to all the parents who supported their swimmers over the two day meet. Those that performed an officiating, volunteer role over the four sessions, thank you so much, these events cannot run without that help, parents even volunteered at sessions when their swimmer wasn’t event racing, that is so great to see.
Next up for our swimmers will be the Larne Sprint meet on Saturday 2nd November.
