Massive well done and congratulations to all the LCSC swimmers today at the SU Development Meet 4. Twenty-eight competed in Lisnassaragh Leisure Centre in East Belfast. Great skills, lessons learned and progress made all with teamwork and smiles. Individual shout out to Adam S who today achieved his first ever qualifying time for the Irish Age Groups Div 2 Championships in Limerick in July 🙌💪. Loads of PBs and medals won but fun had by all. Thanks to all the parents supporting their swimmers at this Development Meet and especially to those who officiated the meet #volunteergold. Final thanks to coaches Peter, Blair and Niamh for assisting and guiding the swimmers throughout the day. Full report to follow once results finalised.
Today was the final session of a very exciting McCullagh International Meet.
LCSC had 8 swimmers today (Andrea C, Paul C, Bryn F, Jack Fleming, Toni J, Sarah McC, Ava McN, Dylan R)
First up was Paul in the B final 50 breaststroke, swimming close to his entry time and finishing 10th. This was followed by Sarah with 9th place in the A final 100 breaststroke. Ava finished 6th in the B final of the same event.
Our youngest swimmer today, Bryn has a great swim taking a further 2.17s off his 5s pb yesterday to finish 6th in the junior 200 breaststroke final!
It was then the turn of the fly swimmers. Dylan was the youngest swimmer in the B final 100 fly. He went sub 1 minute again to finish 8th close to the record swim yesterday! In the girls 100fly A final, Andrea swam a pb to finish in 8th place as the fastest Irish swimmer. Toni was in the B final and improved on her time yesterday in 3rd place.
Paul was back for his second B final today in the 200IM. He improved on his preliminary swim to finish 8th.
Jack rounded off our meet with a 6th place finish in the 400 freestyle.
It has been exciting for the swimmers (and parents & coaches) to get the opportunity to meet and swim with some of the biggest names in British Swimming at this meet. There were lots of exciting races and awestruck swimmers (and parents) and hopefully some learning points to take home.
A very big thanks to our coaches throughout the meet – Dave S, Stan S and Blair T for all their support over the last 4 days. There was also a photo opportunity with Mel Marshall (Adam Peaty’s coach) and our very own Betty B!
We would also like to thank North Down Produce for the lovely fruit supplied to all our swimmers, very nutritious!
Next target meet is the Irish Nationals in Dublin in 5 weeks, which will also serve as the Olympic trials and the meet for swimmers looking qualifying times for International Meets!
